This is rare opportunity to appreciate rare precious music. East and West are not separated yet they have been always being together. East meets West in live music, dance, and theater performances from across Asia. Experience classical and contemporary forms through formal concerts in the Meyer Auditorium and intimate presentations alongside exhibitions. Our chamber music series focuses on renowned artists performing the latest works by Asian composers and music inspired by Asia.
Vocalist and Persian flute (ney) virtuoso Hossein Omoumi makes a rare East Coast appearance with this adventuresome quartet. The group also features singer Jessika Kenney, instrumentalist Amir Koushkani (tar and setar), and percussionists Hamin Honari and Ziya Tabassian (tombak and daf). Their program of spiritual Persian repertoire draws upon the Isfahan school of music, with lyrics by great mystical poets such Attar, Erâghi, and Rumi. All the poems and their English translations will be displayed during the performance.
