The Met, Buddhist Artistic Expressions of Enlightenment

Thursday, November 12 and Friday, November 13
5:30–6:30 pm EST

If you were a member of the The Met, then it would be a time to Renew your Membership to attend a two-night lecture by Associate Curator of Asian Art, Kurt Behrendt, on Buddhist art, sculpture, painting, and more. Take a journey and explore how monks, merchants, and rulers used artwork to give Buddhist ideas form and inspire people to embrace a doctrine of selflessness. The first night begins with the early Buddhist tradition, including The Buddha’s life and doctrine in India and the artworks that helped to spread these ideas across Asia. Night two explores the later tradition, presenting the use of art as a focus for powerful Vajrayana tantric ritual.

There has never been a better–or more important–time to rejoin as a Met Member. Renew today and you’ll unlock exclusive online content, and year-round benefits like free admission, special access to new exhibitions, and discounts throughout the Museum. Plus, your support will allow The Met to continue to offer programming that changes the way we see the world.
