Dec. 26th, 2018. There was a beautiful piano recital in the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, it was suggestive a picturesque of Debussy music. Pianist Woori Kim recital was much enough to get audiences to journey to Deja Vu as if they had conversations with Debussy through her refined sounds of coming from completion of techniques and the sensibility of piano in her highly trained artistry.

Woori Kim is a native of Busan, South Korea. After graduating summa cum laude from Seoul National University, she earned a Masters of Music and Performer’s Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University. She completed her education at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, graduating simultaneously with a Doctorate of Musical Arts and an Artist Diploma, studying with James Tocco, and also serving as his assistant.

She has performed at numerous international music festivals, including the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Kirishima International Music Festival in Kirishima, Japan. Additionally, she has participated in master classes in Prague, Scotland and Salzburg. She has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, including solo recitals at Steinway Hall in New York City, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUI) Indianapolis, Western Kentucky University, and Dolby Hall in San Francisco. In 2011, she was the winner of the CCM concerto competition, allowing her to perform Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto with the CCM Philharmonia under the direction of Maestro Mark Gibson. Dr. Kim has performed Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto and 5th Piano Concerto with the Liberty University Symphony Orchestra. She also is an active chamber musician, and performs as part of the piano duo Les Quatre Mains, with her husband Curtis Ryan Smith.

Ms. Kim serves on the Piano Faculty at Liberty University’s School of Music as an Assistant Professor of Piano, while continuing to appear in solo, chamber, and concerto performances. She has given masterclasses at numerous universities, including Western Kentucky University, Metropolitan State University in Denver Colorado and Indiana University-
Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). She is also a frequent adjudicator for both states and national competitions.
In March of 2018, Ms. Kim gave her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall, featuring music of Debussy and the world premiere of Hommage à Debussy, commissioned from Korean composer Yea-Kyung Chung.
